“The glory of God is man fully alive.” – Saint Irenaeus
Preacher, is your heart fully alive in Jesus? Do you long for the day when you will see Him face to face? Is the desire to see His glory, to make His name known, the driving force behind every decision you make, every sermon you preach, and every relationship you cultivate? Are you aligning every part of your life to make His name known?
In Scripture, the word "heart" rarely refers to the physical organ. Instead, it points to the very core of a person’s being—the deep, foundational essence of who we are that fuels our desires, decisions, and actions. It’s the governing center of our life, the place where our convictions, passions, and purposes are ignited and sustained.
Developing your skills as a communicator—improving your speaking ability, refining your timing, mastering biblical languages, diving deep into theology, and telling better stories—are all essential to becoming a more effective preacher.
But more than any skill that we should want to develop, we need to orient our whole life around our hearts being fully alive in Jesus.
The most powerful, effective preaching comes not from the perfection of our technique, but from the overflow of a heart that is fully alive in Christ. The effectiveness of our ministry is tied directly to the vitality of our relationship with Jesus. When our hearts are fully alive in Jesus, it overflows not only into our messages, but every aspect of our lives. We are speaking out of the overflow of a heart that has been transformed by the living presence of Jesus. Our words have more weight when they are rooted in a daily rhythm of personal encounters with Him.
When our hearts are alive in Jesus, that life spills over into every aspect of our lives—into our relationships, our leadership, our counseling, and our preaching. It’s no longer just about conveying information—it’s about inviting others into the life-changing reality that we ourselves are experiencing. It’s about offering a vision of Christ so compelling, so beautiful, that others are drawn to Him and moved to live fully alive in Him as well.
